Hormozgan, November 2017, day 2

After a one day birding in Bandar Abbas, we headed for Minab city in the east where with its beautiful gardens, mangrove forests and mountainous habitat is a great destination for birdwatching in Iran.

Along the road we stopped at a small village; Hasan Langi Pain. The checklist can be found here: https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S40713941

Hormozgan, November 2017, day 1

Great Knot
I accompanied a Norwegian group on an eight day birding trip in Hormozgan Province in November 2017 and we saw great stuff.

Located on the north side of the Hormuz Strait, Hormozgan provides great opportunities for birding esp in autumn and winter.
In this trip, we covered the east part of the province from Bandar Abbas to Jask.

Quest for the Siberian Crane

Last year I tried to find this most magnificent and famous bird of Iran but to no avail. Fereydoon Kenar wetland, where most of the time he foraging and resting there, has become a unique bird trap area which called "Damgah" in Iran and it's very difficult and even dangerous for birdwatching.
On February 1, finally I could see it. At first it wasn't present in the area where he usually foraging and I nearly gave up to find it but then he flew from nowhere and landed in front of us. What a beauty!

Birding Tehran, February 2016

Lying in the foothills of Tochal mountains, Tehran is providing an opportunity to see montane birds hassle-free. Also Tochal provides a wintering habitat for some interesting migrants such as Black-throated Thrush and Eversmann's Redstart.
There are several valleys that are good for birding; my favourite is Golab Darreh.

in winter Wallcreepers move to lower levels and can be seen easily

Shahrud, 1 July 2016

Shahrud lies on the ancient Silk Road with rich culture and rich in nature; surrounded by protected areas, desert, high mountains and not far from Hyrcanian forests.
My parents lives there and in every visit I have a opportunity to birding in one of Shahrud's parks (Abshar Park) which located at the foothills of shahrud's northern heights.
Here is a summary of my birding in there this summer:

It seems a pair of Shikra breeding in the park. However I couldn't locate the nest.

First Brown Shrike of Iran

On 26 September 2016, Reza Sarkheil saw this beauty in Kish island, south of Iran.
However Iran bird records committee has considered it as "doubtful record".
